Jose Mourinho Blast Manchester United Defender Luke Shaw

Man Utd news includes a brutal assessment of Luke Shaw by Jose Mourinho after the defender was left out again.

Luke Shaw’s Manchester United career looks to be in severe jeopardy after Jose Mourinho questioned the left-back’s commitment, focus and ambition in a frank assessment.

Shaw was dropped from the United squad for Saturday’s visit of West Brom despite numerous injuries and suspensions, as Mourinho promoted 20-year-old Reserves midfielder Matthew Willock to the matchday 18.

Former Southampton full-back Shaw has played just twice for United in four months and it is understood Mourinho rebuked him for speaking to Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings, who stamped on Zlatan Ibrahimovic, during their Old Trafford draw last month. Shaw’s attitude and training performances have also prevented him from getting more playing time.

The £27million signing participated in United players’ five-a-side session after the West Brom fixture but Mourinho said Shaw is a ‘long way behind’ United’s other left-back options.

When asked what Shaw had to do to return to the squad, Mourinho replied: “Who?

Luke Shaw?

“Luke Shaw? It’s difficult for him to be on the bench because I cannot compare him with Ashley Young, with Darmian, with Blind.

“I cannot compare the way he trains, the way he commits, the focus, the ambition. I cannot compare. He is a long way behind.”

When a journalist enquired whether more should be expected from an England international, Mourinho added: ” Joe Hart is an English international and is playing on loan in Italy.”

Shaw started in six of United’s first seven games of the season but since Mourinho publicly criticised him in the September draw at Watford he has lined up just eight more times.

Although United have insisted Mourinho has faith in Shaw, there are ongoing concerns over his training performances dating back to January.
